2025 Volkswagen Tayron 150TSI ELEGANCE 4MOTION.

The Volkswagen Tayron introduces a larger, more practical alternative to the outgoing Tiguan Allspace, giving Volkswagen a dedicated seven-seat SUV for Australian families. Its longer-wheelbase platform creates useful extra space inside the cabin while retaining the restrained, polished styling associated with the brand.

In 150TSI Elegance 4Motion form, the Tayron is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 150kW. Drive is sent to all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, giving the SUV confident traction and strong performance for everyday driving, highway travel and towing. The dual-clutch gearbox delivers quick shifts, although low-speed hesitation can still appear in stop-start conditions.

The Tayron's road manners are among its strongest qualities. Steering is light and precise, the body responds neatly to direction changes and the all-wheel-drive system contributes to a sure-footed feel. The ride is on the firm side, but the available adaptive chassis control system can improve refinement around town. At highway speeds, a quiet cabin and generous power make the Tayron well suited to longer journeys.

Space is a major advantage. The first row provides excellent headroom and visibility, while the sliding second-row bench allows occupants to balance passenger comfort against third-row access and luggage capacity. Adults should find the second row particularly accommodating, with useful recline adjustment, air vents, USB-C charging points and additional storage. The third row is best regarded as occasional seating for children, which is typical of this class of midsize three-row SUV.

Boot capacity remains useful even with all seven seats in place, offering 345 litres. Folding the third row increases available space to 850 litres, while folding both rear rows creates a large load area for bulky equipment. The cabin also includes two ISOFIX anchor pairs and three top-tether mounts on the second row, supporting family-oriented usability.

The Elegance grade adds a more premium atmosphere through leather upholstery and upgraded front seats with heating, ventilation, massage functionality, memory and power adjustment. A 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen sits prominently on the dashboard and includes satellite navigation, DAB+ digital radio, an eight-speaker audio system and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The clean, minimalist layout is attractive and easy to understand, although the limited use of physical controls may not suit every driver.

Safety equipment is comprehensive across the Tayron range. Features include autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assistance with lane centring, turn assist, swerve support, traffic-jam assistance, semi-autonomous parking and a surround-view monitor with parking sensors. The model received a five-star ANCAP safety rating from testing conducted in 2025.

With its spacious second row, flexible luggage area, composed handling and substantial standard safety technology, the Volkswagen Tayron is a capable family SUV with a distinctly premium presentation. The firm ride and less accommodating third row are worth considering, but the overall package combines everyday practicality with confident long-distance ability.
