1967 SUNBEAM ALPINE SERIES V
Aud $45,000.00
Vehicle Overview
This 1967 Sunbeam Alpine Series V presents the classic British sports-car formula in a substantially restored and thoughtfully upgraded form. Its compact open two-seat shape, elegant detailing and British Racing Green finish give it an unmistakable period character, while a number of carefully considered mechanical changes make it better suited to modern touring than an untouched example.
At the heart of the Alpine is the Series V's 1725cc five-bearing inline four-cylinder engine, fed by twin Stromberg carburettors. The engine has been comprehensively reconditioned, including boring and line boring of the block, flat-top pistons, renewed bearings, a reground camshaft and work to the large-valve cylinder head. The result is a specification centred on usable flexibility rather than outright drama, well matched to the car's lightweight open-body format.
Transmission duties are handled by a rebuilt steel-case Toyota five-speed manual gearbox. This is a significant enhancement for anyone intending to use the Alpine beyond occasional short drives, adding a broader spread of ratios while retaining the involvement expected from a classic manual sports car. The rebuilt Stromberg carburettors and Bosch electronic distributor complement the engine work, and the brakes have also been comprehensively overhauled.
The car was imported from Pennsylvania in 2011 and subsequently taken back to a bare shell before being converted to right-hand drive and restored. Its bodywork was refinished in British Racing Green two-pack enamel clear-over-base, and the interior was retrimmed. Replacement rubber components and Resomat sound deadening and insulation contribute to a more finished cabin environment, while fitted air-conditioning adds comfort in warmer conditions. An Alpine MP3 player with four speakers provides a discreetly contemporary touch without changing the car's fundamentally traditional character.
Suspension comprises independent front suspension and a live rear axle, with disc brakes at the front and drums at the rear. Six-inch-wide Dunlop wire wheels were stripped, etch-primed and powder-coated, giving the Alpine a purposeful stance while retaining the visual language associated with the model.
