This 1968 Jaguar E-Type Series II Open Two Seater combines the instantly recognisable proportions of one of the 1960s’ most celebrated sports cars with the practical improvements and broader usability associated with the Series II generation. Its long bonnet, compact cabin and open-air layout remain central to the E-Type experience, while the accompanying factory hardtop gives the car a more enclosed alternative when required.

The car was restored between 2022 and 2023 and finished in Carmine Red, a colour that suits the E-Type’s flowing bodywork particularly well. Newly chromed bumpers and over-riders complement the 15-inch MWS 72-spoke chrome wire wheels, adding period-appropriate brightness without disturbing the original character of the design. The car is accompanied by a heritage certificate confirming its matching numbers, together with supporting restoration documentation.

Its dual-weather configuration is one of the most appealing aspects of this example. The Biscuit vinyl soft-top and black vinyl hood cover retain the traditional open sports-car arrangement, while the rare colour-matched factory hardtop and stand provide a useful alternative for storage and protection. Inside, the reupholstered cabin features Deep Red seats, rich red carpets, a Moto-Lita wood-rimmed steering wheel and a period-style Bluetooth radio conversion. These details preserve the visual atmosphere of a classic Jaguar while making the cockpit more accommodating for contemporary touring.

The mechanical work covered a substantial range of components. The 4,235cc Jaguar inline-six received an extensive rebuild incorporating new top-hat liners, boring and decking, new gaskets and bearings, camshafts, timing chain, an uprated rear main seal, high-compression pistons, oil pump and water pump. The original-style fuelling arrangement was enhanced with triple 2-inch SU HD8 carburettors, the correct inlet and air filter, while a 123 electronic distributor and gear-reduction starter motor were also fitted.

Further refurbishment extended to the steering rack, independent front and rear suspension, differential, gearbox and brake and clutch hydraulics. The four-speed all-synchromesh manual transmission was overhauled with new bearings, synchros, layshaft and gaskets. Power-assisted disc brakes are fitted at both the front and rear, providing a specification suited to enjoying the car’s grand-touring potential as well as its sporting character.
