BMW celebrates 50 years of 3 Series with special six-cylinder sedan

The BMW 3 Series 50 Jahre Edition marks five decades of one of BMW’s most enduring nameplates with a limited-run specification based on the flagship M340i xDrive sedan. Restricted to 50 examples for Australia and New Zealand, it combines the everyday usability of the seventh-generation 3 Series with distinctive visual and interior details created specifically for this anniversary model.

At its core is a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder petrol engine producing 285kW and 500Nm. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system, giving the sedan a substantial performance reserve while retaining the polished, composed character expected of a premium executive car. BMW quotes a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 4.4 seconds for the M340i xDrive.

The anniversary edition is visually defined by BMW Individual Anthracite Metallic paint, a limited-edition build plate mounted on the centre console and 19-inch jet black M light-alloy wheels. The dark exterior treatment is complemented by the M Sport Package Pro, which adds red high-gloss M Sport brakes, M Lights Shadow Line detailing, M seat belts and a Black Sapphire M rear spoiler. Together, these elements give the sedan a more individual appearance without moving away from the restrained proportions of the 3 Series.

Inside, carbon-fibre trim provides a focused, sporting ambience, while the heated and power-adjustable M Sport seats are intended to provide greater comfort during longer drives as well as support when the car is driven more enthusiastically. A heated steering wheel and wireless phone charger add practical convenience to the cabin’s performance-oriented presentation.

The standard equipment list also includes adaptive M suspension and an M Sport differential, hardware that supports the car’s dynamic brief while allowing the suspension to adjust to changing road conditions. Adaptive LED headlights, a sunroof and a power-operated boot lid broaden its everyday appeal, making the car suitable for regular commuting and longer-distance travel as well as spirited driving.

Technology is centred on a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system running BMW Operating System 8.5. This layout brings the key driving information and connected functions into a modern, high-resolution interface while preserving the driver-focused character associated with the 3 Series.
