BYD DOLPHIN Essential

2026 BYD DOLPHIN Essential.

The BYD DOLPHIN Essential is a new battery-electric SUV configured to combine straightforward everyday usability with the quiet, responsive character expected of an EV. This model-information page presents the Essential grade in Ski White with a Grey + Black interior, 16-inch alloy wheels and front-wheel drive.

At the centre of the Essential specification is BYD's 44.9 kWh Blade Battery, paired with an electric powertrain producing a maximum 70 kW and 180 Nm of torque. That combination is suited to smooth, immediate progress without the operating characteristics of a conventional petrol engine. The front-drive layout also keeps the mechanical specification relatively simple while providing a familiar arrangement for daily driving.

Range is quoted as up to 410km on the NEDC test cycle, with a 340km WLTP figure also provided. As with any electric vehicle, real-world distance between charges will depend on factors such as driving conditions, temperature, traffic and use of climate control, but the published figures give the DOLPHIN a useful reference point for planning regular trips. DC charging is rated at up to 60kW, allowing charging stops to be managed around longer journeys rather than relying solely on extended stationary periods.

The Essential grade has a clean, restrained specification. Ski White paint is included, as are the 16-inch alloy wheels and Grey + Black interior trim. The standard presentation places the emphasis on the vehicle's core electric drivetrain and everyday equipment rather than optional cosmetic upgrades. A complimentary one-year roadside assistance provision is also listed as part of the model specification.

Buyers can use the configurator to review alternative paint, wheel and interior selections, along with accessories such as a home AC charger, floor mats, boot protection, window tint and dash-camera equipment. These items are separate selections and should not be confused with the standard Essential vehicle specification. The configurator also identifies a Premium grade with a larger battery and different performance and range figures, but those details apply to that separate variant rather than the Essential shown here.

The displayed drive-away figure is calculated for the selected configuration and registration circumstances within the configurator. On-road costs and the final amount may vary according to location and individual registration details, so the online figure should be treated as a configuration estimate rather than a stock-vehicle quotation.
