GWM Tank 500

The GWM Tank 500 is a large body-on-frame SUV that combines a substantial road presence with a broad spread of powertrain choices. Buyers can choose between a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel, a 2.0-litre turbo hybrid and a 2.0-litre turbo plug-in hybrid, allowing the model to suit different priorities around towing, touring and everyday efficiency.

Its traditional four-wheel-drive architecture is supported by intelligent terrain management and a selection of all-terrain driving modes. Sports, Snow, Sand, Mud, Rock and Expert settings are among the available choices, while crawl control can manage throttle and braking on demanding surfaces. Turning assist is designed to make a large SUV easier to place in tight conditions, and the 360-degree camera system provides views around and beneath the vehicle when negotiating confined spaces or uneven ground.

The Tank 500 also aims to make long-distance travel more comfortable. The cabin is configured as a spacious three-row SUV in applicable variants, although the plug-in hybrid version has a maximum seating capacity of five. Available comfort features include leather-accented seating, heated front seats, three-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel and electrically extending side steps. Higher grades add features such as ventilated and massaging front seats, a panoramic sunroof and driver-seat memory functions.

Technology is centred on a large 14.6-inch touchscreen that brings together vehicle controls, media and camera views. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support familiar smartphone integration, while the available Infinity sound system is designed to give the cabin a more immersive audio environment. Wireless phone charging, head-up display functionality and hands-free parking assistance further reduce the effort involved in daily driving, depending on the selected grade.

Safety equipment includes a 360-degree camera, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert with braking. The model is also listed with a five-star ANCAP safety rating. Together, these systems are intended to improve visibility and reduce driver workload in busy urban environments as well as on longer journeys.
