Vehicle Overview

2025 Ford Ranger Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV).

The Ford Ranger Hybrid is a plug-in hybrid double-cab ute designed to combine everyday electric driving with the long-distance flexibility and practical capability expected of a Ranger. Its 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine works with an electric motor and an 11.8kWh high-voltage battery, allowing the driver to choose how the available energy is used rather than relying on a single fixed operating mode.

Four selectable EV modes give the powertrain a useful degree of flexibility. Auto EV manages the balance between petrol and electric power, while EV Now prioritises electric-only driving for journeys where quiet operation and reduced tailpipe emissions are valuable. EV Later allows battery charge to be held for a later part of the trip, and EV Charge uses the engine to replenish the battery while driving. This makes the Ranger Hybrid adaptable to mixed urban and regional use without removing the reassurance of a conventional combustion engine for longer travel.

Capability remains central to the package. The range is available with four-wheel drive, and published figures include 697Nm of torque, a maximum braked towing capacity of 3,500kg and payload of more than 800kg. Those figures position the hybrid system as an additional source of working flexibility rather than a substitute for the load-carrying and towing role expected of a dual-cab ute. Drive modes including Tow and Sport, along with a mode intended for slippery, sandy or muddy conditions, support different surfaces and demands.

Pro Power Onboard adds another practical dimension, providing up to 6.9kW of power output for compatible equipment. This can be useful when the vehicle is being used away from fixed electrical infrastructure, whether for tools, equipment or other portable loads. The combination of onboard power, four-wheel drive and plug-in capability gives the Ranger Hybrid a broader operating brief than a conventional urban-focused hybrid vehicle.

Inside, the vehicle is centred around an integrated 12-inch LCD touchscreen. Exterior and equipment details vary between Sport, Wildtrak, XL and XLT versions, with highlights across the range including 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels and distinct trim treatments. The Sport and Wildtrak grades bring more individualised styling, while the XL and XLT provide alternative approaches to the same plug-in hybrid concept.
