This 2026 BMW X3 xDrive40d combines the practicality of a five-seat SUV with the long-distance character of a six-cylinder diesel powertrain. Presented as a demonstrator with 2,855 km, it pairs a 3.0-litre turbo intercooled inline-six diesel engine with 48V mild-hybrid assistance. The system produces 223 kW of combined power, with the diesel engine contributing 210 kW and 650 Nm, while the compact electric motor adds 13 kW. An eight-speed Steptronic sports automatic transmission and constant 4X4 drive provide the mechanical foundation.

The mild-hybrid system is designed to support smoother engine operation and energy recovery through regenerative braking without changing the familiar refuelling routine of a diesel SUV. With a quoted combined fuel consumption of 6.6L/100km and a 60-litre tank, the X3 is configured for efficient extended-distance travel.
