This 2026 MG HS Essence Hybrid+ is a nearly new demonstrator combining medium-SUV practicality with a petrol-electric powertrain and front-wheel drive. Its 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine works with a 1.83kWh hybrid battery to deliver 165kW of combined power and 340Nm of combined torque, with Comfort, Normal and Sport driving modes allowing the character of the vehicle to be adjusted to different conditions and preferences.

The hybrid system is supported by two energy-regeneration modes, while the 10-speed automatic transmission is designed to keep the power delivery smooth and composed. The result is a versatile drivetrain suited to everyday urban travel as well as longer-distance driving, without changing the familiar refuelling routine associated with a petrol vehicle.

Inside, the HS places a strong emphasis on digital presentation and day-to-day convenience. A 12.3-inch colour touchscreen sits alongside a 12.3-inch virtual driver information display, with satellite navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto providing straightforward access to mapping, communications and media. Wireless phone charging and four USB ports, including two for rear passengers, add practical flexibility for a busy cabin.

Comfort is enhanced by dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats with three temperature levels and electrically adjustable front seating. The driver's six-way electric seat includes four-way lumbar support and memory functions, while the passenger seat has four-way electric adjustment. Door-mirror memory, keyless entry and an electrically folding, heated mirror arrangement further reduce the effort involved in regular use.

The cabin is finished with black PVC seating, while the exterior is presented in Lunar Grey Metallic. A panoramic sunroof brings additional light into the interior, and the power tailgate helps simplify access to the luggage area. The second row uses a 60/40 split-fold design, allowing the available carrying space to be adapted when passengers and larger items need to share the vehicle. Silver roof rails, 19-inch alloy wheels and rear privacy glass add useful exterior equipment without compromising the HS's practical focus.

Parking and low-speed manoeuvring are supported by an HD 360-degree camera, reverse camera, front parking sensors and rear parking sensors. Rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlights assist with changing weather and visibility, while LED headlights, daytime running lights and taillights provide modern exterior lighting.

The MG Pilot safety suite brings together adaptive cruise control, intelligent cruise assist, forward collision warning, blind-spot detection, lane-change assist and lane-departure warning. Electronic stability control, hill-start assist and an electric parking brake are also fitted. Together with the vehicle's five-seat layout and split-fold rear bench, this equipment gives the HS a broad range of everyday functionality while retaining the quieter, more measured character expected of a hybrid SUV.
