2026 BMW XM Label G09 Auto M xDrive

The BMW XM Label is an unusual proposition in the performance SUV world, combining the presence and practicality of a large five-door vehicle with BMW M engineering and plug-in hybrid capability. This 2026 demonstrator has travelled 1,501 km and is finished in Black Sapphire with a BMW Individual leather Merino Black interior, giving it a suitably understated appearance despite its considerable performance hardware.

At its centre is a 4.4-litre twin-turbo intercooled V8 working with a 145.0 kW electric motor. The system produces a combined 550.0 kW, while the petrol engine contributes 430.0 kW and 750 Nm. An eight-speed M Steptronic sports automatic transmission sends drive through M xDrive, specified here as a 4X4 on-demand system. The result is a drivetrain designed to deliver substantial performance while retaining the flexibility expected of a luxury SUV.

The hybrid system adds a different dimension to the XM's character. Its 29.5 kWh lithium-ion battery supports an advertised electric driving range of 98 km under the NEDC test standard, allowing shorter trips to be completed using electric power when the battery is charged. The vehicle also retains the long-distance ability of a V8-powered SUV, with a 69-litre fuel tank and a combined fuel-consumption figure listed at 2.7L/100km. Actual results will depend on charging, traffic, driving style and operating conditions.

Comfort is a major part of the XM Label's appeal. The fitted Comfort Package includes active front-seat ventilation, front and rear seat heating, a front heat-comfort package and massage functionality for both the driver and front passenger. These features are particularly relevant to a vehicle intended to cover substantial distances, helping the cabin feel more relaxed rather than simply focused on outright pace. Memory seating and a heated steering wheel further support everyday convenience.

Rear passengers are accommodated in an M Lounge rear seating layout, while the cabin is complemented by a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and wireless device charging provide familiar connectivity, and a head-up display helps keep key driving information within the driver's line of sight. The specification also includes selectable drive modes, electronic damper suspension, a multifunction steering wheel and remote keyless entry.

Exterior and chassis details reinforce the XM's distinctive identity. The illuminated kidney grille is paired with 23-inch M light-alloy wheels, while four-wheel steering is intended to improve manoeuvrability at lower speeds and provide additional composure as pace rises. Performance brakes and a sports steering wheel add to the vehicle's M-developed hardware.

Despite its performance focus, the XM retains useful SUV functionality. It offers five seats, five doors and a luggage area listed at 527 litres with the seats in place, expanding to 1,820 litres when maximum load space is required. The vehicle is also rated to tow up to 2,700 kg with a braked trailer, broadening its practical role beyond commuting and weekend driving.

Driver assistance equipment includes Driving Assistant Professional, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, road-sign recognition and an adaptive speed limiter. Parking Assistant Plus uses a 360-degree camera with 3D view, supported by automatic parking assistance. These systems are designed to reduce the effort involved in busy traffic, highway driving and tight parking environments, although the driver remains responsible for vehicle control.
