Honda's best car getting even better

The 2027 Honda Civic Type R continues the hot hatch formula with a sharper presentation, more polished cabin and a series of mechanical and technology updates. Visually, the Type R gains a more assertive front end. A larger grille opening is intended to improve cooling, while a deeper front splitter adds downforce. Power still comes from Honda's K20C four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, producing 235kW and 420Nm. Drive is sent exclusively to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox, preserving the direct involvement expected of a Type R. Suspension damping in the performance-focused +R mode has been optimised to reduce bounce and impact harshness, while a pedal-yoke spring is intended to provide a more direct brake feel. The rev-match system has also been improved, with quicker engine response designed to make downshifts smoother.

Technology upgrades broaden the car's functionality. Google built-in services include Google Gemini, Google Maps and Google Play, while Alexa is also integrated. Two USB-C ports improve device connectivity, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror is now standard. Honda has also added a new dual-tone horn and introduced Meteorite Grey Metallic as an exterior colour.

Safety assistance is updated through revisions to the Honda Sensing suite. Automatic emergency braking gains improved pedestrian detection and greater visibility of motorcycles and bicycles. Adaptive cruise control receives revised braking and acceleration responses, while lane-keeping assistance is designed to handle road camber and other disturbances more smoothly. Multi-collision braking is also fitted for the first time, helping reduce the risk of further impacts after an initial crash.
