Vehicle Overview

The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan R brings genuinely high-performance capability to the practical medium-SUV format. Its 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 235 kW and 400 Nm, while the 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system is designed to provide confident traction across changing road conditions. A semi-automatic DSG transmission complements the engine, giving the Tiguan R the flexibility of an everyday SUV with a distinctly sporting character.

There is substance behind the performance focus. Adaptive chassis control allows the vehicle's ride and handling balance to be adjusted, while 21-inch alloy wheels give the exterior a purposeful stance. The Deep Black Pearl Effect finish adds a discreet, premium appearance, with matte-chrome roof rails and dark-tinted rear glass contributing to its composed presentation.

Inside, the cabin combines supportive sports-car-inspired design with the space and usability expected of a five-seat SUV. Nappa leather-appointed sports seats feature R branding and blue decorative stitching, while three-zone automatic climate control with air cleaning and allergen filtration helps maintain a comfortable environment for occupants. Customisable ambient lighting and an automatically dimming interior mirror add further polish to the cabin.

Technology is centred on Volkswagen's Digital Cockpit Pro and Discover Pro 9.2-inch navigation system, with gesture control and wireless App-Connect providing flexible access to connected functions. Digital radio is also fitted, while the listed equipment includes a premium Harman Kardon audio system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and satellite navigation.

Everyday practicality has not been overlooked. The electrically operated tailgate features Easy Open and Close functions, making it easier to access the cargo area when carrying items. Keyless Access allows entry and starting without repeatedly reaching for the key, and the Area View camera system combines front, rear and side cameras to provide a 360-degree exterior view. Park Assist can help with parallel and parking-bay manoeuvres.

The Tiguan R also carries a broad suite of driver-assistance and safety technology. IQ.DRIVE systems include Travel Assist and Front Assist with pedestrian monitoring, while Side Assist incorporates lane-change assistance and Rear Traffic Alert. Adaptive cruise control, driver-fatigue detection, rain sensing and automatic headlights further support relaxed, attentive driving. IQ.LIGHT matrix LED headlights and an all-weather light function improve visibility when conditions become difficult.
