This 1972 Buick Skylark Custom Hardtop combines the imposing presence of a classic American coupe with the visual character of a Buick GSX tribute. The tribute treatment is centred on genuine GSX components sourced from the United States. A front air dam, rear decklid spoiler and hood-mounted tachometer give the car a purposeful appearance without overwhelming its original design. Inside, the Sandalwood cabin includes bolstered bucket seats, a floor console and a Rallye steering wheel, creating a driver-focused environment that remains faithful to the era. Working air conditioning and power steering add useful comfort for longer drives, while the original Buick eight-track radio is supplemented by an aftermarket CD/stereo system.

Under the bonnet is a period-correct Buick 455ci big-block V8, replacing the car's original factory 350ci four-barrel engine. The 455 was professionally rebuilt in December 2020 with high-performance pistons and rods, a performance camshaft, refreshed valve-train components, new bearings and oil pump, extensive machining and a balanced rotating assembly. The engine is paired with a Turbo 350 automatic transmission, providing the straightforward, traditional powertrain expected of a large-displacement American cruiser. The rebuilt engine has covered 2,500 miles since completion.

Recent work has focused on making the Skylark more dependable and composed on the road. The brake system has been overhauled, the front-end suspension upgraded, and a new dual exhaust system fitted in 2024. Thermo fans work alongside the original mechanical flex fan, while near-new 225/70R14 Cooper Cobra G/T radial tyres have been aligned and balanced. Together, these updates complement the car's period character with practical improvements for regular cruising.

Originally a Phoenix, Arizona car, the Skylark was personally imported to Australia in 2023. Its combination of big-block Buick power, GSX-inspired detailing and comfortable hardtop layout makes it a distinctive example of American muscle from an era when size, torque and visual presence were central to the experience.
