BYD SHARK 6 Performance

The BYD SHARK 6 Performance is a plug-in hybrid utility vehicle that combines a petrol engine with BYD's Blade Battery and dual-mode all-wheel drive system. Its powertrain is intended to provide the flexibility of electric driving for suitable trips while retaining a petrol engine and 60-litre fuel tank for longer journeys. The published maximum combined range is 640km WLTP, giving the vehicle a broader operating envelope than a battery-only vehicle without removing the need to plan charging and refuelling around the intended use.

At the centre of this configuration is a 2.0-litre turbo high-power engine working within a hybrid system that produces a stated maximum 350kW and 700Nm. The claimed 0-100km/h time is 5.5 seconds. Those figures point to a powertrain designed to deliver substantial performance in a dual-cab utility format, while the dual-mode off-road all-wheel-drive system provides the hardware for changing traction conditions. Actual capability will depend on the surface, load and equipment fitted, but the combination of all-wheel drive and a utility body gives the SHARK 6 a clear focus on versatility.

The selected vehicle is finished in Great White paint with an interior specified in Thaumas Black. Standard 18-inch alloy wheels give the exterior a purposeful stance without moving away from the factory configuration. The selected body tub retains the practical open cargo area expected of a utility vehicle, making the SHARK 6 suitable for carrying equipment or recreational loads within its stated limits. A separate cab-chassis version and accessory trays are shown in the configurator, but they are not part of this selected Performance specification.

Charging is supported through a 7kW AC system, while DC charging via a CCS 2 connection is listed at up to 55kW. This provides owners with more than one way to replenish the battery, although charging time will depend on the available supply and battery conditions. The hybrid layout also means that the vehicle's range and efficiency will vary with electric-charge availability, driving conditions, payload, weather and driving style.
