GWM Cannon Alpha

The GWM Cannon Alpha is a large ute that broadens the choice available to buyers who need genuine utility without giving up cabin comfort or modern technology. Its range includes plug-in hybrid and turbo-diesel powertrains, allowing the vehicle to be matched to different patterns of driving, towing and touring.

The plug-in hybrid models use GWM's Hi4-T hybrid intelligent four-wheel-drive system, combining petrol and electric propulsion with a BorgWarner transfer case and low-range capability. This arrangement is designed to bring quiet, efficient operation to everyday driving while retaining the mechanical hardware expected of a four-wheel-drive ute when conditions become more demanding. Turbo-diesel alternatives include 2.4-litre and 3.0-litre engines, providing a conventional refuelling option for longer-distance use and work-focused applications.

Practicality is supported by the Cannon Alpha's ute body and a selection of equipment aimed at making loading and access easier. Fixed side steps assist entry into the elevated cabin, while the available 60/40 split tailgate provides a more flexible way to reach the cargo tray. The model is also offered with a high-mounted LED tray light, a useful detail when loading or unpacking after dark.

Inside, the cabin is positioned as a more refined space than a basic work vehicle. Depending on the chosen grade, seating is trimmed in faux leatherette, leather accented material or Nappa leather accented upholstery. Electric seat adjustment is available, and the Ultra hybrid variant adds reclining outer second-row seats with electric adjustment for improved passenger comfort on longer journeys.

Technology is centred on a large touchscreen infotainment display paired with a separate digital instrument panel. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available on selected variants, while GWM app connectivity adds remote convenience and vehicle controls. The model's safety and visibility equipment includes a 360-degree camera system, parking sensors, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assistance, lane-departure warning, traffic-sign recognition and driver-fatigue monitoring. A five-star ANCAP rating is also stated for the Cannon Alpha.
